Fruits have been a natural source of food for so many living-being on Mother Earth right from birds to humans. Our ancestors had been surviving on fruits for thousands of years. We all know fruits are good for us – we should eat them and even when the mother gives us hard time underneath, we know She is right.

So, let us know more about fruits and why they must be in our diet. Every year new evidence comes to support how fruits are beneficial for us and the list is endless. To make it simple, we will be mentioning a few which are particularly important, and we must know. The next time when your mother reminds you to eat fruit – you will say thank you and enjoy those juicy-delicious fruits.

First and foremost, Fruits contain dietary fiber which is an especially important component in keeping a healthy gut. As dietary fiber does not get disintegrated or much digested in our gut they support bowel movement prevent constipation and keep overall digestion normal. As famously suggested by Hippocrates (regarded as The Father of Modern Medicine) more than 2000 years ago that, all disease begins in the gut! We can contest that not all diseases are linked to the gut but yes it has been found by many researchers that most of the common and even chronic illnesses are linked to the gut. A good gut prevents us from type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, few heart diseases, and even some cancers.

It is so evident from the first benefit itself that fruits are a kind of divine food hence without wasting time lets know which all fruits are fiber-rich so that you can start including it in your diet, to name a few which are commonly available – apple, banana, peach, pear, guava, berries, oranges, etc.

Another important reason to eat fruit is – they contain many essential vitamins and minerals which our body cannot produce on its own, this is what makes you feel healthy and energized. During this current COVID situation, we all heard the word “Immunity” and Vitamin C is particularly helpful in boosting the immune system of our body. Natural sources to have Vitamin C are all citrus fruits like Amla, Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit, and some other fruits rich in Vitamin C are Guava, Pineapple, Strawberry, and Kiwi, etc. Out of so many options you can choose which one you like the most and start including in your diet.

We must know a term called “Calorie Density” - It is simply the measure of how many calories are in a given weight of the food. For example, one pound of doughnuts contains over 2000 calories making it a calorically dense food item compared to one pound of grapes which contains only 306 calories. All fruits have a very low-calorie density that in turn decreases the risk of weight gain, which is associated with several diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes and high blood pressure.

We have tried to list and explain a few important reasons to eat fruits and we hope you will start including them in your diet – choose the ones you enjoy and then gradually start adding one new seasonal fruit.

There are even people who become Fruitarian, but it is not at all recommended by dieticians and nutritionists as it results in the deficiency of many vitamins, minerals, and even weak immunity.

So ultimately, it is all about having a wholesome and balanced diet.
